Your lack of enthusiasm is understandable. But at least Telarc is giving us an unusual coupling. It's an interesting strategy: couple central repertoire with something much more arcane. (Examples: Sibelius 2 with Tubin, Dvorak 9 with Martinu.) It's also a risky strategy. The mainstream consumer looking for a New World may be scared away by Martinu's name on the cover; the more selective collector may pass on the Martinu because he already hass 112 New Worlds in his collection. I'll be curious to see if Telarc keeps up this pattern.Personally, I'm much more disappointed that the Hanson pieces were given over to the likes of Erich Kunzel. I'll probably get it anyway--a few cups of really strong coffee should keep me awake while listening.
