Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

The Sibelius Complete Symphonies on DGG are out and they are NOT DSD as we had hoped.

There is a rewiew on SA-CD.net and it states they are 24 Bit 48kHz recordings and the reviewer was very impressed with the performances and said the sound excellent but not the best. Excellent? So far I am not impressed with any of the SACDs and DVD-Audios I have that are recorded at 24/48.

The thought here on the Hi-Rez highway was that the Jarvi set would be recorded by the BIS engineers and be PURE DSD and the only unknown would be the performance. Looks like we were wrong these are low-rez PCM!

I am going to pass on this set. I already have an excellent performace of the Sibelius: Symphony No. 2 with other Järvi (Paavo) in PURE DSD on Telarc. And I will be searching for higher resolution SACD versions of the other six.

Also I noticed Michael Tilson Thomas' Mahler Symphony No. 7 in pure DSD will be out shortly.

Happy listening,
Teresa
