Re: 2 new Telarc Soundstream classical discs 7/26

Hi everyone. I do all the Soundstream remastering for SACD here at Telarc. I just wanted to write to say I'm glad you are enjoying them. They are great fun to work on. I've been an audio professional for 29 years and so grew up with tape recorders. I really miss them and all of their quirks since the digital age has come. Hard disks just aren't the same as a tape machine. Working with the old Soundstream tapes and tape machine is a real pleasure for me.

The Mahler 2 was a special labor of love for me. I actually completely re-edited the music after transferring from the original Soundstream session tapes. This was necessary to fully preserve the fidelity of the original because there wasn't a surviving edited Soundstream cutting master from the original LP release. The organization of takes across the multiple Soundstream data tracks was, shall we say, a bit confusing, so reconstructing the original music edit was part engineering, part musicianship, and part Sherlock Holmes.

It's really nice to know that somebody out there enjoys the results of hours of tedious work!

Best regards - Paul Blakemore
