I have owned by now for about one month the new Marantz SA-15S1. It comes for 1,600 Euro here in Europe but presumably in the U.S. it will comply with your indicated budget.This is my second SACD player and my N-th CD player including separate transport/converter machines, and this is by far the best player I have ever owned. The more I hear it the more I like it (I have already posted in this HRH a short review some time ago). So I feel in a position to warmly recommend it.

1)Of course, I have no connection/relationship of any sort to Marantz.
2) This is a two-channel machine, and does not support multichannel.
3) Interestingly, it has a headphone socket with adjustable volume, which may turn out to be a real asset for late night/WAF concerns.
