Audio-GD NFB-28 Dac/Headphone Amp/Preamp - This is a uniquely versatile piece from Audiogd, its a full stand alone Dac, a stand alone Headphone amp and a stand alone Preamp all in one. And each feature can be used together or separately. For my review I am using it as a Dac/Headphone preamp and a Dac/Preamp. This product has 4 digital inputs which includes BNC, single ended as well as balanced analog. Outputs include single ended, balanced as well as Audiogd's own ACSS which keeps the signal in the current domain for better clarity. The unit is all aluminum and weighs in at a hefty 10lbs, fit and finish is perfect all around. Audiogd decided to use its distinctive silver knob for volume control. The Dac portion uses the same Sabre chip and VIA-USB32 input as their other Sabre Dacs. Sound wise, after 200hrs breakin it reminds me a lot of the NFB-1.32 with authoritative lows combined with pristine clarity throughout the frequency range. At 8 watts into 40ohms it drives my Audeze LCD-2 headphones with ease. When connected to my powered Dynaudio speakers its authority and control continues to shine, speed, pitch, timing are all there. The Audiogd house sound is also there, showing itself as a hint of smoothness, giving the sound just a slight bit of lushness.
