I can't get them to sound right either

I heard them initially with an Eddie Current amp at show. They sounded magnificent. I don't own that amp and the ones I do own don't evoke the old memories. They are incoherent; the highs roll off; and I don't listen to much bass. All in all, they are not very enjoyable. But it may be the amp.
