OK I have had these beautiful Stax earphones and powered box in my closet for a few years. The person who gave them to me had them for over 25 years.. connected to the back of a 100 watt/channel amp directly to the SRD-7 box. (the SRD-7 box has direct/ earphone switch, but that was bypassed by the original seller (dealer) so the headphone box was hardwired direct to the amp... (apparently the user would pull the bananas to the speakers to use the earphones). ((Also the SRD-7 box has a powercord besides the wiring to the amp))
I have looked in the SRD-7 box and seems? the amp power goes to some small transformers..
So The question is: what sort of power do I really need to run these earphones well?
CAN I run them off a preamp? or do they require a big power source?
How about the Singlepower tubed headphone amp? it runs 6SL7 or 6SN7 pair of powertubes.
If I need an amp, how much power does it need? vs how good does it need to be?
OR is another box to use the earphones with a better solution?
The phones are the classic shape of Stax tall rectangular box with a shiny screenlike area inside cups. The only clue to the model is the letters "SR" on each side of headband with a large upsidedown "V" under the letters "SR". (I think the earphones are "SR Lambda" model they look just like the picture of the SR Lambda on the STAX site))
So any help with what i have would be a great help. And even what they are worth? (added seems $350. approx for earphones and box) or compare to in todays headphone market?
(I currently use a Rudistor RPX-33mk2 with Sennheiser HD800 phones)
I have NO plans to sell them at all, I just would like to know more.
