I would say that they are great cans for the money, or even more money. I'm not sure why they are so much less than the consumer grade model (kind of backwards making the pro model less money), but they are great. Very comfortable, non-fatiguing, very airy sound with wide soundstage. List may be at or close to the OP's price target, but if you search them on Amazon and then wait for a special, them come down to the low $100's. Crazy bargain.
