Too soon.
DVD A made a big mistake with packaging. Those things don't fit in regular CD spaces.
I have one DVD A, it doesn't sound any better than the regular CD-- Neil Young's American Stars and Bars... A GREAT disc.
I agree the multi Channel Audio is fantastic!
I am collecting as many SACD multi Channels I can find!
I say it was a product before it's time because when they were marketed, (and marketed is a not really an applicable word here) there were virtually no quality budget oriented consumer home theater systems to be had. At least not like todays.
I do think there has been a somewhat underground resurgance since then. In September of '08 I found a 5-disc SACD player at Best Buy for $157. I have it in my main system and then started buying multi-Channel discs. (I even have a couple DTS encoded Surround sound music discs, the only thing I can play them on is my HD-DVD player, another "flop")
Anyway, I figured I'd buy another one for the basement system last Christmas. They were sold out. They were sold out on line too. They were sold out on Amazon. I was at the local Best Buy yesterday they are sold out of them again.
There are also seems to be less multi-channel discs available online than there were last fall. (At least many of the titles I bought last fall aren't listed anymore)
People ARE buying these things....Now!
