I had bought it about a year after it had come out and was heavily discounted. Toshiba had a blurb citing the part # on their web-site and asked owners to just bring it to any authorized repair shop for a free repair after first having the shop order and confirm receipt of the part.

Since it's a problem they know about, they still might repair it for free under a "hidden warranty."

If I had to guess, this was all 4-5 years ago.
