Re: Dolby TrueHD on HD-DVD is probably the future of hirez audio

The new system will offer the following options - AFAIK.
Core DTS in all streams @ up to 24/48
DTS-ES in 5.1 with a matrixed Rear Centre Channel
DTS-ES 6.1 discrete
DTS 96/24
(All the above are already available with the DTS-Pro series encoders)
The DTS-HD MAS will offer the foolowing new extensons:
DTS-HD High Resolution - I am not certain what sample rates will be available, but I do know that there will be an option for a higher bitrate than the current 1.509Mb/sec
DTS-HD Lossless - offering true lossless compression in a similar way to MLP, where the output will be bit-for-bit identical to the original.
At first, this will beavailable up to 13.1 (Why escapes me to be honest, as although the HD DVD and Blu Ray specs allow this and more, conventional 5.1 has still to really take off, and current implementations of HD DVD and Blu Ray will NOT support this at all.
(According to AudioMedia magazine, current implementations are a maximum of 3Mb/sec for Audio in HD DVD and a pathetic 1.7Mb/sec in Blu-Ray. I am still trying to confirm these figures, as AudioMedia do not give sources.)

So there is definitely going to be an "interim" extension, with the DTS-HD High Resolution.
THere will be a cheaper encoder too - DTS-HD SAS, at only $750.
It will not encode to lossless, and some of the extra tools that will be included in the DTS-HD MAS will not be there either.

Real benefit?
Same stream for all formats.
Players/amplifiers will automatically output at the highest quality any given system is capable of, with no user intervention required.

As soon as I get information, I shall post with links.
