I wouldn't necessarily call it annoying. To me - it is more distracting. I got into 5.1 mixes more out of curiousity. I listen to it - I like it... but then always go back to my stereo layer. I just get a kick out of solid imaging - knowing that there is no speaker there - yet it sounds like there is. Having 5 speakers pointing at my head - just doesn't do it for me... Although - for movies - I like it... My brain just isn't used to listening to music that way. I really think it is a learned thing more than anything. My center channel is in the middle of my two mains - and even though it is off - it bothers me - because I am looking at it - and it sounds like something is coming out of it!! Call me wierd!!
