Do DVD players play multi-channel audio via the multi-channel audio out and simultaneously down-mix to the stereo out? It could be possible but will not the player need 8 DACs?I am evaluating a Yamaha S657 player and it seems to be capable of doing that! (I tested it with a multichannel test track.) If it was an expensive player, I may not be so surprised. But I assumed the front L&R from the multichannel output shared the same audio out with the stereo pair.
