MLP is "Meridian Lossless Packing". But most of the Japanese majors have a really hard time mentioning a competitor's name in their product literature. So instead they call it PPCM for "Packed PCM".LPCM is "Linear PCM" which for all practical purposes is just plain old vanilla PCM.
