Combined, the two formats account for two-tenths of a percent of the entire recorded-music-on-atoms market. Sheesh, cassettes - cassettes! - outsell 'em ten-to-one. Add in recorded-music-on-bits'n'bytes (the real future of the industry), and we're talking total, irredeemable insignificance. Stick a fork in it and turn it over - it's done. Arguing which is the stronger format is like debating the relative merits of the Montreal Expos and the New York Mets.I am unnaturally attached to my hi-res rig, but I harbor no illusions that the format is anything but moribund. I just hope that a few boutique labels a la MFSL and DCC keep the faith, and that new machines (or at least replacement parts) will be available down the road when my current unit breaks down.
peace,
yrd.
