I have a Marantz DV8300 universal player and I recently purchased the Cambridge Audio 540D cd/dvd-audio player. The 540D offers a nice presentation, albeit a little thin, for the $399 spent. However, the DV8300 is excellent on dvd-audio. Great attack and transparency. The sacd and cd playback on the DV8300 are nothing to write home about though. For a dvd-audio player, as well as a dvd player, I would highly reccomend the Marantz. BTW, the DV8400 is supposed to be better on sacd and cd playback.
