Yet again, greed gets in the way.

Why Patents on ideas are being granted is beyond me, it really is.
If the german case stands up, then I may as well go patent a Zero Point Energy reactor, on the grounds that "I thought of it" and then when someone actually works out how to do it, I'll be quids in.

That is what the german one is - someone claims that he patented dual format discs years ago - even though he could not make them due to the manufacturing problems. Damned nonsense.

Philips attitude does not surprise me in the least either.
Corporate greed is douing more to kill multichannel than anything else. As soon as M'learned friends get involved, all kinds of technology just goes out of the window because of lawsuits. This madness does nothing to protect any interests other than the current status quo.

Dual Disc was a good idea, but it's not going to happen. The lawyers will make sure of it.
