You got that right...

I switched to class-D amplifiers after seeing how expensive class-A/B amplifiers have become.

The last class-A/B amplifier I bought was a Parasound Halo A21 in 2012. I got a pretty good deal from a friend, who was a dealer. However, now the price of the new Parasound Halo A21+ is more than double of the price I paid. I needed a more powerful amplifier for my Thiel CS3.7 speakers when I discovered that PS Audio Stellar monoblock amplifiers were given an "A" rating in Stereophile's Recommended Components. This grabbed my interest immediately, and I bought a pair of their 1200-watt monoblocks. These things were a night-and-day improvement over my Parasound Halo A21. Moreover, PS Audio gave me a 25% discount because I pre-ordered their new M1200 monoblocks before they were officially in production. I got a pair of awesome sounding amplifiers for a very reasonable $4500.

More recently, I bought another pair of class-D monoblock amplifiers for my Mini Maggie speakers because I didn't need so much power. I decided to take a chance on a pair of Hypex Nilai 500 Monoblock amplifiers, which sold for $995 each. It turns out that I got real lucky because these 500-watt monoblocks sound even better than my PS Audio 1200-watt monoblocks.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, class-D is the way to go these days. They sound as good if not better than class-A/B amplifiers and they cost less than half the price. I'm overjoyed with the performance of both pairs of class-D monoblock amplifiers I bought.

Happy listening!
