Maggie SMG's or MMG's as surround rears?

Per this thread I proposed to use SMG's as rears in new 7.x.2 or 7.x.4 system. https://www.audioasylum.com/forums/MUG/messages/25/253712.html

The room seems big enough to do this, though placement of the rears is causing me a little heartburn. The most convenient placement would only be 12" out from the rear wall, max. The reason for this is door location. Father out would make things awkward.

So, the question: is this too close for the SMG's to be a sensible choice for the rears? To be sure, I'll try it regardless. But if this is a terrible idea for some reason then I can brace myself for something else. The alternative would be a pair of bookshelf units on stands, though I'm not yet clear what those would be.
