I made my own powersupply and manual softstart circuit with UcD 400's. My powersupply was overbuilt (1450VA toroid with 80K in filter capacitors) and my case was unnecessary(aluminum-lined marble). If I were to just go with the kit, it would be prety easy.Then you can start tweaking (there are capacitors in amplifiers too... if you think crossover caps in Maggies are cheap, look in your amp/preamp/active crossover and start counting all the cheap electrolytics in the signal chain- even on expensive components). The basic UcD amplifier design is elegantly simple, which makes it great for tweaking.
Love the sound. Load/frequency independant low distortion sound (stable to less than 1 ohm).
