Interesting idea but you pretty much can't use any other phono stages with the cartridge right?
Price wise it is a huge leap from what you have used in the past so I reckon so not surprised that it outperformed the others.
Follow Ups:
In short, everything about it is better.
The energizer/pre is open source, so anybody that wants to can build an offer one - and there are several available right now.
Price jump? Have you priced a CAT SL1 recently? I now have one of the best phono sections available in the market that's utterly useless. So the price difference is virtually irrelevant if you assume no sunk cost. I paid less for the 003 cartridge than I did for the Kiseki. In total is was far, far less money than what's in the CAT cost of the phono section. And in the end the DSA stuff sounds much better.
The DS Audio stuff is a bargain for what it delivers. TAS review attached if you haven't seen it.
Interesting video. He explains it well. I would love to listen to it some time.
I googled it and found the DS W3 and matching phono is 15K. I understand now that's not the one you have.
If you're in the DFW area with time to kill you're welcome to stop by and have a listen.
It might take more than one session. It took me several hours of listening to fully wrap my head around what it's doing ...- or rather what it's not doing. I consider the optical cartridge a game changer.
