I never had the Krell and the un-retipped 47 at the same time, so I can't say. The Krell is supposed to be the same as a Standard, but there's also a Krell KC-200, so not sure what that is.
I had the 47 retipped by Soundsmith with ruby and optimized contour stylus. I couldn't listen to it for a long time, it was so analytical. But I'm liking it more now, whether b/c of burn-in or accommodation of my ears.
Follow Ups:
I held off retipping mine for the longest time but eventually suspension went so magic was gone. I thought of sending it to Soundsmith but from what I have heard from them I had the feeling that their house sound is not to my taste. So... When I needed my Troika rebuilt I asked Daivd over at the Goldring if he would give it a shot. He has done a marvelous job rebuilding the Troika so I thought why not... Knowing I will never get the same voice back from the M47. Apparently its magic is in its suspension and noone could reverse engineered is what Yoshi told me.I am surprised that you changed the cantilever to Ruby. I kept its aluminum cantiliver and Alinico magnet in tact. I lived with Miyabi47 for many years and never sounded analytical. That's not in M47's DNA.
Never heard the Miyabi Standard. It was just too heavy for my arm. The only Miyabi made cartridge I have heard was Mofi Cabon cartridge. A nice cartridge with spacious midrange but was lacking dynamics and jump compared to the M47.

I regret the ruby, and I think you're right about SS's house sound. Now I use VAS and stick with original cut and cantilever material.
I'd be eager to hear what the Goldring retip sounds like.
