10 years old in 1956. All I remember was Ed Sullivan and Red Skelton.
Follow Ups:
We got our first tv in dearborn MI.in 1953 when I was 8 y.o.
We were the last people on the block to get one. It was great watching all the primitive programing.
I'll vouch for the "Topper" series, I think that was what introduced me at an early age to the classic Hollywood 'snappy dialog' interplay. See for example the Thin Man movies, the Hepburn and Grant movies like "bringing up Baby", other great examples to be found. I still love them!
The actor Roland Young, the original Topper in the three MGM movies, was hilarious. He had to do these physical comedy bits where he was dragged, shoved and otherwise cajoled in very public places by the invisible ghosts George and Marian.
I could watch those movies again and again. And have on TCM!
