I must recognize something that I did recently that really made an impact on me. I currently run four turntables across two systems. I had an Empire 598III sort of off-line for a period of about 8 months. It was in a system with a Rega Planar 3 with an Exact2 cartridge. I watched a video on You Tube that was comparing cartridges and the focus was on how good the Goldring E2 cartridge was. I found that cartridge on Amazon for $70.00 and thought what the heck, I'll buy it and install it on the Empire and get it running again. Although a little difficult to get it balanced correctly, that combination is just super musical. It totally gives the Rega a run for the money. I've actually found the Empire/Goldring more fun to listen to on most music. Just wanted to put in a plug for vintage tables and especially that Goldring cartridge.
Follow Ups:
I've been touting the Goldring E3 for quite awhile now. Has become one of my favorites.Excellent cartridges.
(And to clear up some confusion: The "E" series from Goldring is designed in-house by Goldring. They are a 100% Goldring cartridges that are manufactured by Audio Technica. These are NOT Audio Technica carts per se...
