I don't know your particular speaker, but a sealed enclosure has a roll-off in frequency at the low end of 12/db per octave as opposed to ported at 24/ per octave. Which is better in your particular situation you will have to decide yourself.
I have heard both enclosure results with the same speaker and prefer the sealed response best, but it depends on room locations and frequency responses desired, so there are many variables.
It sounds like you can try both over time (if possible) and decide for yourself in your particular case.
Follow Ups:
The reason I asked as I want to add a subwoofer to the system without using any high pass filter. If port plugs can end up less bass extension with cleaner bass, it is exactly what I want. And it is much easier for adding a sub to fill the bottom that has rolled off by using ports plug.
LS3/5A would have flattened the hump? BBC could have done some research. Most likely they did. A port let's us use socks or straws et al.
Cheers
Bill
...at least he never mentioned it. The LS3/5a happen to be good speakers regardless, that is only one example. I've built a few speakers in my day and also bought one example, a Mission, and it was ported. It was disappointing.
I never got it to sound good in MY room the way I wanted them, ported or straws, whatever, so I gave up on them. I have Electrostats and use them now and always. (I've reached the big compromise realization a few times before, and 45years since I've had them). I had to be reminded :-)
There is no more fiddling around and trying out different types anymore for me
So, to the original poster - good luck on your search
