I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I think it's time to treat yourself to a new pair of speakers. Everything in that pic looks extremely compromised including the tweeter....which someone has already mentioned. This not to mention aged xover components and a cabinet that looks like it's seen a few parties. By the time you finished a complete restoration, you could have bought new and likely better speakers for the same investment.
Follow Ups:
Mick, thanks for the suggestion.
I've ordered the foam surround kit and gaskets form Simply Speakers and will refinish the cabinet before installing them.
Yes, new speakers would be a solution; but I'm retired and look for things to do that are within my abilities and that improve things. Re-habilitating these speakers fits that goal. Besides, for less than $50, I don't think I could replace these speakers.
Finally, if you think those Baby Advents look bad, wait until you see the '70s large advent 'bullnose' speakers I will do next. :)

I appreciate your desire to stay busy with a project, but why not build a modern speaker kit? Regardless, good luck with the Advents. The Large Advent was my first "serious" speaker purchase back in the day.
Money!
I've lived longer than I expected and retirement funds don't stretch nearly far enough.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I find the budget for audio adventures is shrinking as well as I grow older. Once again, good luck on your project.
