traditionally one 4'x8' sheet might yield a reflex, 1-La Scala bin, baffles, 1-Karlson type
what other fun stuff can be made to fit one sheet? (BLH for fullrange?)

Hi freddyi,
Just got the latest audioXpress mag, shows Bill Fitz's latest redesign of the Tuba 24. The 16 inch wide version can be built from one sheet of 4'X 8' ply. cool and loud!

You wouldn't happen to allready have a 4x8 layout for the K15?
Save me a bit of time. Allready decided birtch is worth a mere
$12 more than MDF. MDF is way more expensive than I remember..
Home Ripoff wanting $20 for 3/4 inch MDF. Absurd!
And hardwood furrings 3/4 inch x 36 ain't cheap neither...
Not sure if I should attempt to cut some from the sheet.
All I really got to cut wood with is a Bosch router...
So all my kerfs are all gonna be at least 1/4 inch wide.
Hi Freddy,
You mentioned in another thread that the Karlson was the ultimate atomic age speaker. I like the sound of that! Given the size of my home theater room, I think they would be better for the low end than horns as the seating position will be about 11 to 12 feet from the speakers. I'll probably try Altecs horns on top. Definitely an atomic age look.
So what do you think is the ultimate Atomic Age amp? The WECO91? A Dynaco?
Cheers,
-Tom
What works better for the K-enclosures - MDF or plywood?
Cheers,
-Tom
I think plywood is better although Willem Noorloos used MDF or HDF - -factory Karlson had extra stiffness due to formica covering - -I had a big radial on top of K15 sound good (maybe better than 511) but was ~33" wideWillem's Karlson + JBL horn pages
Wow! Those are sharp looking. Does it matter whether you front or rear mount the driver in a Karlson on the angled baffle?
Cheers,
Tom
might change tone a tiny bit (?) - all my K are rear mounted - Les Hudson and Carl Neuser sometimes use front mount - Willem really liked K15 and said could get 130dB peaks and power not obtainable with his former Cerwin Vega 15" reflex
hi Tom - for value and being a "blameless amp" Dyanco Mark II? - - Grommes 260A would have been cool for the cascode and screen regulator (Hart said iron wasn't 1st class)
Best,
Freddy
It took a full sheet to build my subwoofer and its custom base.
Hi freddyi,
You could make 2 from one sheet. Don't know if it's cool, but must be the easiest thing to make. Be sure to include the removable sub-baffle cause you will want to try all your drivers!
