Hi All -
Have a pair of Cornwall III's on order - about six weeks out according to the rep - I can't wait...
Was wondering if there are any speaker cable generalizations that one could make when using Hi-eff speakers - specifically Klipsch Heritage?
Currently using Straightwire Rhapsody S (inter-c's as well) with a Cary SLI80 tube integrated/Cary 308T CDP/Horizon TT. I've been pleased with this combination though my old Polks & more recently through my former Maggie 1.6's.
I tend to stick with what works - is there any good reason the Klipsch's won't like the Rhapsody?
thanks, as always

I like magnet wire too. It's so cheap it's basically free. I noticed a definite improvement from enamel-coated wire over teflon-coated CAT5. I use 30ga for compression drivers and 24ga for fullrange drivers, single twisted pair. You can twist it with an electric drill. It's the same stuff that's in your output transformers and speaker inductors, more or less. Don't use it for high voltage, but for speakers at low power (a couple volts differential) it's fine.
Another solution, which I haven't tried yet, is cheap silver wire. You can buy silver wire from any jewelry supply shop. It's cheap in the smaller gauges. For insulation try 2mm Audio-Consulting natural cotton tubes www.referenceaudiomods.com.
My system has ESODESIGNSTUDIO ltd Snake OilŪ cables that are a custom braid 6 strands of 28ga magnet wire (three hot, three neutral). A lifetime supply of magnet wire will set you back about $10.00.

Do you put any additional insulation on the magnet wire, or just use the enamel coating? Do you tightely braid, or loose? Have you compared them to other cables? Thanks!
I braid them not too tight but enough for a regular pattern to happen. The lacquer/enamel/whatever it is is fine, but you need a solder pot or torch to burn it off terminations to avoid scarring up the wire.
Compared to the previous 18ga solid copper wire, these improved detail and imaging.
I'm no propeller head, but I just believe that with really sensitive speakers (mine are about 108db 1w/1m) one is not usually pushing huge quantities of power through the cables, so less is more. These offer an adequate passage without so much real estate that much smearing can occur.
BTW, single strands of the same 28ga magnet wire did not sound full. 2 strands may have been adequate, but that would be harder to bundle neatly. 3 strands per (Configured as 3 pairs) allow a nice braid with braided terminations.
Now Tom and the lamp cord crowd can have a go at this snake oilŪ nonsense...

JUST a coincidence?
I think not.

Good one Steve! As Rush Limbaugh has said:
"Do you realize that every person who ate carrots in the year 1850 is now dead?"

Hehehe. Yeah, remember that one. Also like an old George Carlin bit (I think from either FM&AM or Class Clown):
"Scientists have announced today that saliva causes cancer. However only when swallowed in small amounts over long periods of time."

The oft used argument against legalizing pot is that 25% of heroin users used pot first. But 100% of them used milk first.

Heheh. Yeah, the old "gateway drug" theory. This country's truly fucked up when it comes to things like that. I remember people going apeshit because Nike was going to market a shoe made from hemp in the US.
The horror!
*sigh*

Cut-Throat
I picked up some cheap JPS Labs in-wall wire made of some proprietary, non-ferromagnetic, solid core blended alloy wire, "Alumiloy." I chose it because the outside diameter of the wire matched the hole in the side of my speaker cabinets. Nice, tight fit with no air escaping from the compression chamber (crimped to the drivers). Sounds fine. Can't tell the difference between it or Nordost 2Flat, or Walmart's Yard Master Patio Cord.
The inwall waire according to JPS Labs is not the alumiloy wire...
As always mind that the wires you use are long enough to reach the speakers, that's the most important thing.
Of course some Klipsch speakers actually do sound better with wires that don't reach.
Just for that, I'm pulling out the WHITE lamp cord this AM for some SERIOUS "listening"!
Did I mention my "listening" this AM would be SERIOUS?
Yes, SERIOUS!
Nobody here but us chickens.
