I'm looking at the 'Aristocrat' plans for my mint EV SP12B and cant figure out the inside fold dimentions. It looks like it goes from the full width at 17" at the bottom to 8" (those were estimates I dont have the plan in front of me) at the top. Is it that easy to cut or am I missing someting. It seems lie the top is at the back of the speaker where the bottom is in closer to the front bafle where the angled sides are

Yes, with the caveat that the cuts ideally need to be at a 45 deg angle. Back when I used a handsaw though, I didn't bother if they weren't visible, instead filling the seam with a glue/sawdust mixture. Don't know the dims, so either reverse engineer it if you're math savvy or do as I did and make cardboard templates as required.
Anyway, the DIY manual gives an exploded view and assembly sequence:

one of the first things I remember about hearing Aristocrat (and mine) was the high modulation midrnage and highs shimmy from its rather larger area unbraced 1/2" plywood front panel
since PWK is gone - who gets the real credit for designing EV's lineup of that era?

Yeah, all these old designs are poorly braced IMO, not to mention using only 1/2" plywood in most cases! Apparently it was assumed that these would never be driven louder than a typical HIFI console. That, or they preferred all that extra resonance to make it seem more 'musical'. Still, the DIY books of the day stressed good construction techniques, materials, etc., so probably just the usual cost management to the lowest common denominator of what John Q. Public will tolerate at a given price point. Pretty low considering B0$3's overwhelming success. Then there's the low driver positioning typical of the era so they could do double duty as end tables or corner plant/whatever stands, OK for LF drivers, but wide BW ones? Yuck!
As for who gets credit for designing them, I guess it's whoever either posted a patent first and/or brought one to market, but you're a much more knowledgeable historian, so you tell me. ;^)

re:low drivers - that's when folks happily lived on the floor - look at early 1950's Radio & TV News + Audio Engineering covers :^)

and side angle pieces. I didnt see them listed in the plans. I was also looking at the Marque'
