Hello,
I've been reading through the archives exploring the possibility of building a BIB. That is going to take some time as there are over 330 pages, but I have begun compiling a list of potential drivers. If I choose today I'd select the FE168E Sigma. Sadly that driver is no longer available. So the question occurs, what currently available driver most closely emulates that driver. I like the 6.5" size as that will limit the box dims somewhat. I've noticed the response of this design doesn't correlate directly to driver parameters. I.E., whats on paper doesn't necessarily translate to how one would think it would eventually sound (make sense?). I'll continue reading through the archives and hopefully will find more answers than questions.
My best to the group.
John

Godzilla,
If you are selling just the drivers I'm definetly interested. Let me know the details and we can work something out.
Best regards,
John
What would you pay for them?Godzilla3@hotmail.com

I don't have any experinece but MJK's sheets are used to model BIB to 1K
AJ-Horn will replicate MJK results using "parabolic" flare, setting throat area to 0.001 and correct driver offset from "tip" (usally in 0.2 X path length is ballpark)
I just checked, i think they are still available..

Hey Fred,
The FE168EZ sigma that Madisound currently offers is apparently at least subtly different than the original FE168 sigma. As you may know I'm planning on building a BIB. From what I've seen of the archives modeling drivers to determine box dims isn't always an exact science. Apparently especially so with this design. So I've decided to go with a driver that has proven itself. Unfortunately some of the more favored drivers seem to be no longer available. Never the less I appreciate your help.
Best regards,
John
Yes, the older 168 Sigma is different and has a whizzer cone etc., but you mentionend "168E Sigma" in your original post, not "168 Sigma"... Anyway, both drivers are reportedly very good. The 165k is also a sleeper as mentioned by some builders in the diyA thread, you'd need a helper tweeter though if you desire more extended highs...I've only listened the 167E, 166E, and 208EZ, the EZ's are a bit smoother in the lower treble IMO.. Good luck.
