Has anyone tried the new Eminence EMI-1550 high efficiency 15" woofer for subs?
Impressions?
Follow Ups:
It's a Madisound only OEM, and has less than spectacular specs to say the least. It certainly doesn't offer any competition to the 3015LF.
I havn't tried this woofer but find woofers with large Vas tend to have looser suspensions and more articulate bass at low power. I've tried a B&C woofer with great looking specs for small box with deep bass that had a suspension that took massive power to move and sounded like crap. Crappy specs don't always mean crappy sound. YMMV
1550 has high Le (~4mH) - B&C 15 PZB40 sound like big thick cardboard -haha (can't remember if model with shorting ring was much better) - to be fair I was trying to use it high - where were your xover points?doubling mass and making tighter suspension only kills the mids and highs -usually no more "bass" for a given direct-radiator cabinet
I was using it 800-1600hz. All kinds of mids. It had no hit or life in 3.5 cubic foot BR. No cone motion either with class D amp. I ran them in for three 8 hour shifts with an AB International 900A (awesome amp!!) and could never get a good sound from it. Off to ebay they went.
IT was the 15HPL76W.
The cheapo Pioneers (acoustic suspension) and Cerwin Vega S2 15s hit like tanks with a half a watt or so with any amp and have floppy suspensions, rolled surrounds.
Just my observation, YMMV.
I couldn't get any subjective hit from 15pzb40 with > 200W peaks
Another small Vas woofer. Is the suspension tight?
re:suspension - its got whats needed to balance 130+ grams mms to ~40Hz - not super-stiff but has for me a lifeless midrange
any cool fullrange picks ?- hope you have a real good 4th
I gave up on fullrange. For wide range try the JBL 2118J or H good to 100hz in BR 200 in closed box. Nice clear crisp vocals, easy to use.
Nice 4th to you too.
