It is not my intention to sound like I am bashing Klipsch.....But IMHO a first time possible horn buyer audtioning Klipsch is very likely to only reinforce his opinion that horns are brash, in your face, and not pleasing.
Sadly there are few places where you can audition other horn loaded speakers.

Follow Ups:
Well it seems the bandwagon regarding horns and brightness just keeps rolling along. Vintage Klipsch of course are to be used with vintage tubes. Were I to hook up my Forte pair to a chinese tubed amp or I hate to even say it ... a soild state amp, yup those horns will let you know what in your face means. But with a few watts of NOS Dutch tubes and your search for musical nirvana will reach it's happy conclusion. Enjoy
there are people around with them. Like you said, living in south Georgia I am unlikely to encounter any Edgar Horns... So far, if memeory serves, I have heard:
Cain and Cain
Omega
Zu Druids
Multiple Home Brew Fostex
A $30K (can't remember the name) that looked like a giant Klipsch
One or two other, really can't remember the name on these either.
No straight horn set-up like Edgar or such.
I have J Kloss Fostex BLH and love them, if Fostex is not for you do not ignore Klipsch. I bought a used pair of Heresys for a second system for mono lp's and cd's and I am not dissapointed in the least. I do recommend you use tubes on them. Wait I recommend you use tubes on everything. Always trust your own ears listen to Klipsch but keep in mind Kloss builds many kinds of speakers he may have one for you.
I am taking my Bottlehead amplifier with me for my listening session. The person with the speakers has a large number of vintage Klipsh models. Probably more than a dealer.
I see Kloss posting here but I don't know anything about him. Does he have a website?
No I don't think he has a web site. Link to pics of some designs he has done in the past. In link highlighted name for email contact, or send me email and I'll give you his phone #

I took a look, neat site. The Ariels were especially interesting. If I decide to get in touch with Kloss, I will just email him. Thanks!
I'd head on over to Tom Danley's place and offer slave labor in return for an education. His tapped horn and rotary sub-woofer are a couple of fresh ideas in a stale field. He credentials speak for themsleves. To bad his partner has no interest in the home audio market as I get the feeling Tom would be willing to give it a go.
Look up Danley sound labs, Gainseville, GA. Yorkville makes a tapped horn speaker through an agreement with Tom's company BTW.
And yes, I am with you....all those back loaded horns and supposedly full range drivers don't cut the mustard for me. But trying open baffle with a bass reflex on the bottom and some sorta tweeter on the top ain't half bad and very easy to make.
Now none of these options are worth a damn when it comes to WAF/SAF.

does indeed look easy. If I were going to build one that would be it. Like you said though, this goes in the living room. The wife might let me put one in for a while, for building fun, but it won't be the permanent speaker. I am a good long way from Gainseville though I am reading their web site. Maybe a pair of Triangle Antals and a Bottlehead Paramount 300B and call it good for a while?
