I am particularly interested in proven synergies.TBH I have no experience with horns and I am not sure if my room is of a good size for a real horn fiesta (24m2, 3m high).
I am perfectly fine with some extraordinary dynamic speaker with a big bass driver. I think I want something that can move air;), still with lots of transparency and palpability.
I know Charles ALtmann uses 1 Altec VOTT speaker (i think he's a mono guy).
Still I would love a more contemporary speaker, something that would be able to perform without any additional servicing or similar in years to come. Say - from mid-90s up to today.

Maybe this isn't the best match, and of course the LS3/5As aren't high efficiency speakers (quite the opposite: they are 83 db, 15ohm)-- but for some reason my BYOB and these speakers go great together, at least in my office space, played at low to medium volume.I'm not sure what this means in the overall scheme of things, or in answer to your question, but it did surprise me a little bit.
....but I'm using a pair of 70's vintage Altec Boleros to great results (for this vacuum tube guy) with my BYOB Amp. But they have a sensitivity of only about 92dB/w/m. The 10 watt BYOB Amp needs abit more from the partnered speakers. But overall a good match for the $100 I paid for the Boleros.I don't know why, but I had less success using Hemp Acoustics 8 inch fullrangers OB with Charles' amp.
I heard somewhere on the 'net that Charles also uses Bert Doppelberg's ORIS horns with Lowthers. I had 150hz Chapman horns (a North American variant of the species) with Lowther PM5As years ago. They were BIG and they played loud and sounded like live, but I'd say if consider this route, try looking at Bert's smaller 250hz horns and bass units. At a past VSAC they sounded very good in a small hotel room.
For me, I'm looking into building ALTEC Model 19 clones with better cabinets. There's something about those ALTECs that just sound so right.
It would be great if it could move the cones in 24m2 room.
...is that you will be alright for most smaller scale music at sane (neighbor friendly) levels. They might be lacking if you require listening to The Ramones at close to live levels.
