I'm very interested in upgrading to the Esoteric DV50S but am unsure if it will play DVD-Videos. I own a number of fine videos (Clapton, Zep, Roger Waters, etc) and want to be sure I can play them on this unit. Any insight would be appreciated
Follow Ups:
I know that Esoteric makes universal players WITHOUT video capability... I believe the DV-50s does video, just make sure before you buy!
Even the ones that don't have video outputs.
Yes, I know that, but if you look at the original post, it seems obvious that the person wants his deck to play back the video...
Yes, and the DV-50S has video outputs, of course.
.
Thanks...Actually, I felt quite sheepish posting/asking.
I don't think you should feel sheepish at all - the DVD-V/DVD-A conundrum is often confusing even to those who have been exposed to it since its inception. Since most DVD-V players that have been sold in the past ten years cannot play DVD-A, if you are not intimately familiar with the twists and turns of DVD-A it's not unreasonable to wonder if a DVD-A player can play DVD-V.
Thank you for the kind words of support. IT IS damn confusing - case in point, I purchased a lovely Sony DVP9100es recently only to find out after the fact that it DOES NOT play DVD-A!!! Thus my reason to upgrade to the Esoteric DV50s
Regards
Staying with Esoteric, there's a new machine that could work well for you, because it has CD/SACD/DVD-A capabilities (but no DVD-D): it's the SA-60.
