Martin DeWolfe of "Bound for Sound" made the 3 week observation years ago when the JPS cables first hit the market.
I made a bunch of them, using FSJ-1 and FSJ-2, made interconnects and speaker cables...
Just a bit of a pain when you move equipment around a lot or with lightweight pieces...
Follow Ups:
I read all the old messages about it, also yours ;-)
I also read about the long and particular break in.
Having JPS SUperconductor 2 speaker cables, I decided to made some interconnects with the Heliax.
The question arises from having read an hold review of the Superconductor 2 IC where the reviewer warns that it is directional. The first time he plugged it he was not liking what was hearing so he reversed it and all sounded good. But the JPS have some printing to use like direction reference.
In my case after 4/5 days of listings, about 25 hours of playing, I tried to reverse the IC, so you have the the printing "Heliax FSJ-50" in opposite direction of the signal one. It seems that in this position the sound is more organic and musical.
But has you know the sound of this IC changes day by day from bright to dull and vice versa.
I also bought some LFD1-50. the 1/4 version of the 3/8 FSJ2-50, to made a XLR cable to use beetween preamp and amp.
It happened to you to do a XLR balanced IC whith the Heliax?
I was thinking to solder the 2 corrugated copper tube shield both to the ground pin, in order to have the same connection of the 3/8 unbalanced IC.
I've never tried the balanced configuration, just the single ended style.
I still have the ones I made all those years ago but just never use them any more...in my current system, and with its' isolation devices especially, the stiffness is hard to deal with...if I had a heavier preamp than my Audible Illusions I would definitely revisit these cables.
Good luck and have fun!
