I am going to sell all my uber-pricey stuff and start over with cheap cables.
I personally suspect I'll lose little, if anything.
(Reasons:
- I use a power regenerator so noise is low
- Runs are all short - 1m
- I just cannot believe that it's "necessary" to spend $500+ on a power cord)
I thought Audioquest was "budget," but look at this:

Too good to be true? Chinese junk?
Follow Ups:
I would agree with you on the change of cable. I have 5 Shunyata cables on the dining room table since yesterday that will go up for sale this week.
They are the last of 18 Shunyata cables I have replaced with DIY power cables and interconnects. Nothing wrong with Shunyata. I have used different cables of theirs for years and been very happy with the quality.
I am using Dr Ohno single crystal copper, 13 awg. I formed it into a star-quad configuration with a copper braid shield and single ground wire. Covered with heat shrink tubing and TechFlex. I installed Furutech gold plated cord caps. The multiple 13 awg equals 10 awg.
The cost is about $240 per cable at 4.5'. I'm able to put $300+ back in my pocket per cable.
As I have just received this particular power cable... The Emotiva XIEC (link below)I'll be comparing it to the Shunyata Venom, and the Wireworld Stratus.
Using the Schitt Valhalla 2 headphone amp as a control source.
The Emotiva XIEC seems to be beautifully made for $60.
Worth looking at for a budget PC, although I cannot yet comment on sound quality... I'll be happy to report back in this thread once I get a chance to listen and compare.
Cheers,
SF

These are superb at reasonable cost. I always thought the name "anticables" was too gimmicky and figured their cables might be the same. How wrong I was.
I'm thinking of trying the Anti-Cable Level-2 power cord. Their speaker cables transformed my system.
Can you give some details about the difference in sound you heard?
Thanks.
Gary
Smoother, better highs and more bass. I use one from the wall outlet to the power distributor, a glorified power strip, and another one for the power amp. Love 'em.
Would you say the Anti-Cable power cords were neutral or did they tend to color sound?
Thanks,
Gary
No coloration that I can detect. I would have noticed that right away if there had been, I think. And the build quality is off the charts.

what gear are you planning to sell?
I'm a fan of Gotham Audio cables.
Several gauges depending on use. Pro cables, so, built for the road with heavy flexible rubber (non-blingy)and excellent shielding.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.
You could easily do much, much worse than ordering a bunch of the 40th Anniversary Accuphase stuff off Aliexpress.I started with one power cord and ended up with 6, then tried the interconnects, which are also outstanding and last, but not least ended up with their USB cable as well.
Very high performance, ridiculously inexpensive.
The power cables relegated my Viborg 1501's to the secondary basement system. The IC's (at $25 a pair) replaced some other Aliexpress purchases, which in turn had displaced some well known $350-$400 IC's.
The (other 2) USB cables I had previously came direct from China as well and were possibly fake(s) and around $50 CAD for a 5 metre USB but the Accuphase was clearly the best performer of the 3 in that area as well.
Apart from cyroed Mogami 3103 for speaker cables (which is every bit as good at about 1/10th of the price of Kimber 8TC which I sold off), I am pretty much all "Ali-Ali Accuphase" at this point.

What is Aliexpress? It looks European.
It's hard to believe the incredibly low Accuphase prices. They must be Chinese made, right?
What differences did you notice in sound for the power cord?
Thanks.
Gary
They're a Chinese outlet and offer good service. They sell everything under the sun including audio. I just got a Grey Knight coaxial digital cable from them that's terrific. My anticable power cordsreplaced a couple of their power cords, which were very good, although I got the cords directly from the mfg, I assume , Xangsaneaudiocables. They make a lot of clones of other (western) cable mfg. Scroll down the page and you'll see a thread about them.

Thanks for your response. You really helped by noting that the Anti-Cables replaced their cables, proving I would be wise to put money toward the Anti-Cables power cord rather than experimenting with the cheaper cords. I definitely want to move up, not sideways.
My current power cords were purchased 20 years ago on the recommendation of an Asylum friend who said they bested cords costing up to $500. Sounds as if that's a similar situation with the Aliexpress. Good value for the price but not in the same class as the Anti-Cables and other higher priced cords.
Thx. I'll give one a shot. They're practically giving them (Accuphase 40th) away.
Yeah, the prices are ridiculously low. Hard to believe.I had used DIY power cables I made with DH Labs Power Plus and Marinco connectors for years before experimenting about 4-5 years ago with (initially) Viborg top of the line connectors (unplated copper) on the DH Labs and, following that, Viborg 1606 raw cable mated with the Viborg connectors.
After having very good results with that I moved onto the pre-built 1501's with the top of the line unplated Viborg connectors and used them for a few years.
I think the 1501 is a very good cable but do prefer the Accuphase. The one area in which I think the 1501 might be/is probably better is the bass/lower frequencies. Probably a bit tighter and better defined than the Accuphase.
But pretty much everywhere else I prefer the Accuphase. In my system it has a blacker background (and the 1501 is no slouch in that area), better dynamics and a more refined midrange and highs. It just seems to sound more natural and musical than the 1501's I have which, comparatively sound a bit hi-fi.
There are some who find the Accuphase to sound a bit rolled off and have opted to install rhodium or silver plated connectors on it, but I certainly don't and am quite happy with the stock connectors that come with the cable. Same with the IC's.

Agreed. The Accuphase 40th Anniverary power cables are quite the steal. May even be a tad smoother and more refined than the Viborg 1501's. Time will tell of course, but I can't think of a better way to spend $50-$60 if one is in search of an excellent bang for the buck. Caveat here being which one to choose as several "Ali" vendors are in the mix. FWIW, I chose "Qincrown". His ad features the term "fever" to the mix. So the ad reads Accuphase Fever 40th Anniversary.
FWIW, the 1501 series Viborg's are only used with my power amps. This is where I found them to be somewhat of a revelation. When the 40th Anniversary arrives, it will be rotated throughout, both on amps and source components. Thx again.
I've had great success with Viborg 1501 series power cables. Available on Amazon in the $150 range.
The biggest factor in power cables, imho, is wire gauge. I use 10 awg cables on my amps and power regenerator, and 12 awg on my dac, transport, and preamp. You can get good quality cables made to order from Take 5 Audio

I wouldn't trust that. If you want a pretty inexpensive recipe made with known good wire and plugs here are two things you can screw together yourself. I like these as much as power cable costing up to $400 or beyond.

That's a weird thought. What's your goal? You'll lose some money anyways. And you will be stuck with so-so cables.
There are genuinely good "cheap" cables but they are not all created equal. Power cables don't "filter noise" from the mains, they protect (amongst other things) against the nearby radiations, they provide perfect interface between plugs (something you can really hear), etc etc. Just because you have a conditioner doesn't mean you don't need quality pCs, they don't do the same things!
mainly because of the fake Oyaide power plugs used. IME, these have poor build quality and don't sound particularly good.
If buying Chinese power cables, I would recommend to stick with ones with at least decent, non-fake plugs, e.g. Viborg, Monosaudio. You can find them under $60-100 on Aliexpress..
How can you tell? (Not doubting you.)
