DVD audio down mix, original stereo?

Hello, I am new to DVD audio and SACD and have just recently bought a handful of titles.
While most of the discs have stereo and 5.1 soundtracks, I have found Some discs, "Silverline Brand" only have a 5.1 mix, and I can only listen in stereo if I downmix.
Is this downmix going to be the same mix on the original stereo CD, or do I need to purchase CD as well to have both mixes, thanks in advance, David
