Is it safe to Place the Onzo Zerodust directly on the Platter Mat (out of the box)?

I am using a Herbie's Audio Grunge Buster TT Mat on a Rega P9. Unless I place the Zerodust directly on the mat (out of the box), it won't clear the tonearm lift, which I cannot adjust.

Is this safe?
