If you like the Ortofon sound consider the X5 which is a HOMC type. I changed from an OM-30 to that and surface noise was lower. I believe it has the same stylus as the OM-40. I had to add some head weight on my RB-300 arm for best sound. You can get these for under $200. Bass is much tighter than the OM-30. The main improvement was in percussion.
