If you're going to be cleaning a lot of records, spinning them by hand gets real old real fast--at least it did for me. The very thing that makes vacuuming effective--strong suction--makes it difficult to turn by hand. The idea of a low speed, high torque motor is a good one, though hard to do easily and on the cheap, and of course if you go this route, you'll need a screw on record clamp to keep the lp from slipping. The VPI's and Nitty Gritty's are expensive, but not without reason.
