What about some of the nicer direct-drive units from the late '70s? I've seen quite a few Sony PS-X5's and PS-X7's on eBay; I'm particularly interested in the PS-X7, which has a massively heavy metal alloy plinth, bulletproof construction, and carbon-fiber tonearm.
