Speed problem on a Phillips 777 turntable?

I have a speed problem on a Phillips 777 turntable? When you adjust the pitch control for 45 speed it is either to slow or to fast and when you can get it to stay lit in on normal usually no more then 3 to 5 seconds does it stay there,it starts going back and fourth between slow normal and fast almost continuously?33 works fine when doing adjustments!Any ideals as to what would cause that?Could it be a stretched out or slightly loose belt? I do not know how much tension
there should be on the belt?Thanks in advance for all your help in this matter!Brian
