I just spent a good bit of time going thru a 1219. The biggest overall problem I found was grease that had hardened and caused parts to stick or freeze up.
The main problem on mine was the speed control lever mechanism was frozen so badly (grease) that it would not allow the idler wheel to move against the platter. After cleaning everything up and re-lubing, the only other thing that needed attention was to set it up so that the auto-start and return functioned. This required a lot of time studying the mechanism to figure out what the problem was. It turned out to be a little pin that moves against an arm, that in turn moves the arm. It has a rubber cap on it to create enough friction to move the arm. The cap was damaged, so in it's place, I put a dab of hot glue. Two points of this that that took me some time to figure out were 1) realizing that the arm needed at least a rough setup so that the it was balanced light enough to allow the friction of the pin to move it, and 2) finally finding directions that the auto-start cycle should be run with the arm locked in it's holder to reset the mechanism.
Everything works as it should now and I'm really pleased with the sound of the table.Good luck on yours!
