Let me be the third person to recommend Decca/London recordings. As yoiu can tell by my moniker, I like them the best.The other reason, you might be hearing distortion on _some_ of the recordings, may be due to the previous owners'. The toughest parts to track are usually the first to get damaged by poor playback equipment. I have found plenty of examples where the record plays fine except for the "big finish" for example.
