Both are True PAO based Synthetic.Beware of Amzoil! Most formulations use way more ZDDP (a Zinc compound that increases shear strength and high pressure lubrication but is toxic to catalytic converters) than API allows. Since the oil does not have API certification, you will void any factory or aftermarket warranty you may have.
It is unfortunate that Mobil chose to use type III base stock (highly refined conventional oil) instead of a totally synthetic base oil. I have lost the faith regarding the stuff myself and am using Red Line as of my last oil change.
