I have a very hard time beleiving that a skinny Mk III platter would have more what you call prat than a heavy one. But I will definitely give your obseravtions a chance. I don't know scientific explanation for it, but it seems the skiinier and RINGIER the platter, the more prat you get. Take Lynn for example, early ones with felt mat had most "life". But I came to realise that all that "life" was artificially induced resonances and vibrations in LP itself, which were not taken away from the record. I've had a relatively thick clear acrylic platter on my Pink Triangle, way back when, and long before everybody started using them, and it had plenty of prat. In any case, it will be fun to experiment with this huge 30-lb steel and acrylic VPI platter that I found with it's corresponding huge bearing. If it doesn't work out - out it goes!
