A followup from Jonathan; just in case he's been too busy to check all of the AA posts!Hi Keith:
We have, as I recall, communicated in the past. How are you doing?I don't think that damage will occur as a result of tracking the Argo at 2g, However, I also don't believe that this will allow the Argo to
sound as good as it could. This higher tracking force will displace the internal coils somewhat from their optimal location, and as a result, the Argo will have a little less dynamic linearity, and the tonal balance will also be shifted a little towards the bottom end. But if that's how _you_ like the sound, who am I to complain? (^o^)One thing that you could try is to readjust the tracking force ratio. The Ekos has both a counterweight and a spring, so you can use both static (counterweight) and dynamic (spring) forces to generate the total tracking force. What I'd suggest is moving the counterweight forward to get the tracking force to perhaps 1g ~ 1.2g, and then use the spring to apply the remaining 0.7 ~ 0.5g. This will alter the low-frequency resonance frequency of the Argo-Ekos combination, and should give you a little better tracking overall. I think the sound in the bottom octaves will become a little more articulate as well. Of course, 1g weight +0.7g spring, or 1.2g weight + 0.5g spring, are only initial suggestions. If this appears to push the performance in the right direction (and I think it should), do feel free to experiment with weight:spring ratios until you get the sound that you like the best.
