If the idea of arm damping is causing you heartache and worry, remove the arm and fit one of your choice. It is not difficult and arm boards are now freely available. It seems that the hardened audiophile is now coming round to the view that the strength of the SL1200 is as a stable, accurate base for spinning vinyl at a more than reasonable price and Kevin's mods (to the TT) lifts the performance by several price points to compete with the best.I am currently listening to Dave Gruisin "Discovered Again" a superb Sheffield Labs direct cut from many years ago on my SL1200 fitted with an SME3 with integrated Ortofon SME 30h cart with stylus replaced with the Stylus 40. The record has never sounded better so full of life and detail, the goosebumps are rising and the hairs on the back of my neck are tingling and yes I do have the fluid damper on the SME.
