Oh dear. What you have done by not running the tonearm cable through the "P" clip is to short circuit the suspension. That is the arm is no longer isolated as far as practical from feedback. Why The "P" clip has to be so tight is to clamp vibrations via the arm wire. Yes the wire through the "P" clip also adds stability to the subchassis but that is not its sole purpose.
