The Empires run a very well machined platter at least 6-7 lbs. I have roughly the same mass in my Rek O Kuts and I can attest that the attack and presence of these vintage tables eclipses anything I have heard under say 3-4k in a new table. Some ROK and the Empire tables utilize the Pabst motors that Mosin and Ray gush about.
I gush too...this motor is extremely fine stock. Mark Kelly might be able to bring up up a full notch too!
I really feel the best value in turntables out there are likely to be the better vintage tables. The Empire has always been high on my list but more expensive than I wanted to pay. Thanks for pointing out a great turntable option to those looking for great sound on a tight budget.
For the DIY crowd, you can weight the platter even more, plus dampen the upper cast plate and even build a custom plinth. I think there is even more performance available for the taking.
Cheers!
